SERVICES

Since PROOFREADING is the last step in the editing process before publication, special attention to detail is essential. In this final edit, I carefully and systematically check for any uncaught spelling, word usage, grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, consistency, or formatting errors.

TYPICAL PROJECTS include clean fiction, non-fiction, and poetry; print and e-books; articles (for the web and not); Christian or biblically themed writing; also health and wellness topics. I don't accept projects containing gratuitous profanity, prolific violence, erotica, or undue sensationalism.

ABOUT ME

Shelli at Smith Rock2.png

I look forward to the privilege and opportunity to use my skills to help your writing shine without distractions. Professional proofreading is my choice of employment, and here’s why.

First, I’ll admit that from fourth grade on I’ve been shaping up to be the incurable bookaholic I am now. Typically, you’ll find me in the middle of several books at a time. Historical fiction, biography, autobiography, mystery, romance, action-adventure, lit-fic, fantasy, contemporary, essays, etc.—I get wrapped up in them all.

I also confess to being a complete and hopeless word nerd! Words are fascinating to me. Delving into etymology adds depth of meaning to any study on any subject and can make a huge difference in understanding and communication. That is my humble [earthy, honest] opinion.

Literature and writing, including word studies and usage, grammar and punctuation, and so on, are subjects I thoroughly enjoyed at the university level and taught (for over 28 years) to children and teens. Do errors jump out at me? Even when I’m not looking for them!

Writing has become an additional passion for me. As a published author, I’m familiar with each step of the sometimes arduous but also rewarding processes of writing, editing, formatting, and publishing.

I join with others for mutual support in this process through a twice-monthly writing group, which I get to facilitate. Besides this, whenever possible, I exchange work with other authors so we can edit and give feedback on each other’s work. I’ve learned editing is an essential part of writing.

Together, all these activities have fed and fueled my love of reading, writing, and editing. The net result is this: I would love to be your proofreader.
